Lost wax casting is an industrial process based on and also called investment casting, one of the oldest known metal-forming techniques.

The process is generally used for small castings, but has been used to produce complete aircraft door frames, steel castings of up to 300 kg (660 lbs) and aluminium castings of up to 30 kg (66 lbs). It is generally more expensive per unit than die casting or sand casting, but has lower equipment costs & pattern costs. It can produce complicated shapes that would be difficult or impossible with die casting, yet like that process, it requires little surface finishing and only minor machining.

Lost wax casting is one kind of casting method for manufacturing metal products, which refers to precision casting.Modern precision casting is called investment precision casting. Lost-wax precision casting is generally used for small castings.

Lost wax casting process is as follows:Press liquid paraffin wax into briquetting→ take out wax pattern→ fit gate→ paint and make shell→ melt wax pattern→ bake mold shell→pour molten metal→take out castings →clean pouting gate and burr → test and put it in storage.

Common castings made by lost wax precision castings are numerous, such as lost wax casting steel, one of the advantages the casting is its flexible design, and designers have the greatest freedom of choice the casting shapes and sizes.
